John B. Stetson, a hatter, located in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1865. In 1866, he opened a new shop on Fourth St. above Chestnut. The firm moved to a more spacious site at Fourth and Montgomery in 1872, where it evolved into the John B. Stetson Hat Manufacturing Company, the world's largest and most famous hat factory.
